Professor Farhad Analoui

Dr. Analoui is a Professor, International Development and Human Resource Management with the Department of Development and Economics and Development Studies, University of Bradford. He lectures on Human Resource Management, International Development, and Managerial Effectiveness both at the Centre and as a visiting lecturer in other universities. He has provided leadership for the Professional Development Services (Training and Consultancy and has been responsible for the co-ordination of all professional training programmes and consultancy projects both at the BCID and abroad (1996-2004).
Dr. Analoui has acted as an external examiner for other Universities and he is an associate advisor to the British Council on management matters and is consulted by DfID as an assessor in relation to research projects on managerial effectiveness in developing countries. He is an active researcher and has carried out independently funded research in the UK, Romania, Zimbabwe, Ghana, the Middle East, Iran, Croatia and Oman. He has published several books, has published in international academic and professional journals and acts as a referee on the editorial boards of journals and publishing houses. Professor Analoui works as a management consultant both on behalf of the Centre and independently for the International Development Agency, the British Council, World Bank and International Consultancy organisations. He also provides professional services and expertise to private and public sector organisations in Europe (Eastern), Africa, Asia, South East Asia and the Middle East (UNRWA). At present he is working closely with senior management of the Ministry of Finance, Department of HR in Zagreb to develop a performance appraisal system for the Ministry and with senior management of the public sector, Oman to improve managerial effectiveness for reform. |

Professor Lino Briguglio

Professor Lino Briguglio is Head of the Economics
Department, Director of the Islands and Small States
Institute and Director of the Gozo Centre, all at the
University of Malta. He was awarded a Ph.D. in Economics
from the University of Exeter (UK) in 1982 and an
Honours and Masters degree in Economics from the
University of Malta (1972 and 1977). He obtained a
Diploma in Social Studies from the University of Oxford
(UK) in 1970.
Professor Briguglio has published a large number of
papers on islands and small states, one of which is a
seminal article on the economic vulnerabilities of small
island states in World Development (September 1995). He
has also edited a series of four books on Vulnerability,
Resilience and Competitiveness of Small States,
published by the University of Malta in collaboration
with the Commonwealth Secretariat. He also authored
three books on the Maltese economy. He was formerly
editor of the series Islands, published by Cassel/Pinter
of London.
Professor Briguglio has acted as consultant to several
international organisations including the UNDSA, UNEP,
UNDP, UNCTAD, World Bank, the Commonwealth Secretariat,
SOPAC and CARICOM on matters related to the economies of
small states. He has represented the Maltese government
in many international conferences dealing with islands’
and small states’ affairs. He is a member of the Mala
Fair Trading Commission and the Malta Commission for
Sustainable Development, and serves on a number of
Government Committees and University of Malta Boards.
Formerly he was a core member of the Malta EU Steering
and Action Committee during the Malta’s negotiations for
EU membership. |

Pierre Encontre

Pierre Encontre is a Senior Economist in the Division for Africa, Least
Developed Countries and Special Programmes in the
secretariat of the United Nations Conference on Trade
and Development (UNCTAD) in Geneva. He is a graduate
from the Institute of Political Studies of Paris, and
holds a Doctorate of Economics from the University of
Clermont 1 (France). Prior to joining UNCTAD in 1991, he
was a UN economic adviser to various small island
developing States (SIDS) of the Caribbean and Pacific
regions. Most of his work in the UN has been relevant to
the differential treatment of small and vulnerable
developing countries, with particular reference to the
Least Developed Countries (LDCs) and SIDS. In recent
years, his main activities have focused on contributing
to the triennial review of the UN list of LDCs;
analyzing the benefits derived from LDC status; and
helping graduating countries achieve structural economic
transformation, notably by reducing permanent
disadvantages and enhancing economic specialization.

Professor Hassan Ugail

Hassan Ugail received a BSc. degree with First Class Honours in Mathematics in 1995 and a PGCE
in 1996 both from King's College London. He was awarded
his PhD by the School of Mathematics at University of
Leeds (UK) in the year 2000 for his research in
geometric design.
Dr Ugail is currently the head of visual computing research group at the University of Bradford (UK). He is involved in research in the area of computer aided geometric modelling, Engineering Design and Mathematical Modelling of real life scenarios.
As an active researcher and the head of visual computing research group at the University of Bradford (UK), he is responsible in managing a number of graduate students and researchers as well as acting as the principal investigator for a number of funded research projects. Sawkut Rojid
University of Mauritius
Sawkut Rojid is a graduate from the Cardiff Business School and a lecturer in economics and finance at the University of Mauritius. He has published a large number of papers in the field of international trade and some of them in respect to small economies. Sawkut Rojid has acted as consultant to several international organisations including the UNCTAD, the Commonwealth Secretariat, the COMESA Secretariat, SACAU, OSSREA, ACFRN and TIPS.
Sawkut Rojid is the in-country researcher for the yearly SADC Trade Review project funded by the Australian government and managed by TIPS South Africa. He is also a trainer at IDS, University of Sussex for the Training course on Economic Partnership Agreement. He is the consultant of the African Development Bank (ADB) working on the African Economic Outlook, for Mauritius. |

Boopen Seetanah

Boopen Seetanah, a graduate from Nottingham University, is a senior lecturer in Economics and Finance at the University of Technology, Mauritius. He is actually the team leader of the Economics and Statistics team at the School of Public Sector Policy and Management and also the programme director of the Bsc (Hons) Banking and International Finance and the programme coordinator of Master in Business Administration (MBA). He is also a visiting lecturer at the University of Mauritius, the Mauritius College of the Air, The Mascareign Institute of Law, Economics and Management (MALEM) and for the London School of Law (Mts). He is also an external examiner for the Chartered Institute of Logistic and Transport (UK).
Boopen has published a large number of papers on islands and small states and has been specializing in the field of infrastructure and development and tourism and development over the last couple of years. He has also written book chapters in several edited books. Boopen Seetanah has acted as consultant to several international organisations including the UNCTAD, the COMESA Secretariat and the SACAU.
